In the near future we will be recording a podcast and a malgorcast, so if you have questions that you haven’t posted yet do so here.

Is there any debate where you can see a theory argument go before Topicality?

If the 2nr doesn't address theory like condo in the speech, but goes for T,
    is this a problem?

  2. Rob

I know you somewhat addressed this before, but especially with the release of the Synergy 1.5 beta, I would appreciate it if you could tell us any tips/ideas for of flowing on your laptop. One that I found very useful was the feature built into Microsoft excel to collaborate with more than one person, in essence making it a shared flow so both partners can work on it.

I would be interested to see what you think a 2AC to word PICs should include when the aff lacks a specific defense of a given word. It seems like the generic go-to 2AC (especially in high school) is PICs bad, language doesn't shape reality, and some generic (possibly Butler) using bad words is good argument. Thoughts on better args?

if we went 3hrs, we'd still not put as many listeners to sleep as that podcast you all run does in 57 mins. If I wanted to listen to NPR sounding like people well I'd listen to NPR

    ….what??

I would like to see a discussion about making the transition from localized high school debate to college debate like things that one would need to work on

  7. Robert

I definitely agree with Ben – debating dedev on the aff seems to be getting harder and harder to not get outspread.
Do you think 1AR blocks are useful? For what things?
Also, Obama bad disads vs. Obama good disads and why the latter is so much more popular

  8. Anon

what generic CP's should we prep out for next year except for consult? is executive order CP a good pick, will it be like states this year?

  9. Alex

How do you feel about the rez being worded as "and/or"? Should we default to the interpretation of "military in x countries" vs. "police presence in x countries", or exploit the grammatical loophole and have the two directions of the topic be "reduce military presence" and "reduce police force in x countries"?

Please, how does the alternative function in a round? how should it be weighed, or at least, how do I put in a framework how to weigh an alternative? thanks!!!

I think it would be very beneficial to have a discussion about 2AC answers to word PICs, and a discussion about how to use the case against the PIC, if that's even possible.

  12. Nick

How to deal with a large 1NC that contains like 10 off and case. Where to spend time, when its strategic to kick advantages and the like. Also, which ways its best to set up the 1AR to deal with a proportionally large block.

  13. Adam

How MJP works. Often people do judge prefs and they still get people they put as 3s. What are the chances of getting a 1, 2, 0r 3. Also I think you should discuss the idea of using outround strike cards at large national tournaments. CEDA and the NDT do it, what are the disadvantages/advantages of doing it at the larger high school tournaments such as the TOC, Glenbrooks, Greenhill etc.

Perhaps an interesting one would be,
How did each one of you know what you wanted to do is to coach debate? Did you coach high schools in college?

Also, do you see college and high school debate communities as existing in something like these thought 'enclaves' — where something like the3nr/Debate Synergy appeal to and would be taken up by a particular type of enclave, whereas others wouldn't have even heard about it since they might aim to derive other values and skills from their participation. What are the main enclaves that you think exist in the high school debate community? Do you think that that nomenclature mirrors itself pretty exactly in college debate, or are certain types more accentuated? Could something be done to bring them more together? Would that even be desirable?

New affs-good/bad, podcast version of Roy/Scott's May 09 posts. Is it just bad new affs that stink, or the general concept? Are new affs a way of "legally" not having to comply with disclosure norms, and just really a grand attempt at circumvention of what has become a near-consensus national circuit community norm of disclosure?
to Scott, with your May 09 post-why does "freak out the other team/decrease their ability to receive coaching" not constitute a legitimate argument for breaking a new aff?

Also, do you see the NDCA gaining near 100% participation of top-tier teams in the nation while also being a more democratic tournament than the TOC? Can the NDCA eventually overtake the TOC as THE tournament?

Generally, do we place too much value on end of year tournaments? Should how well one does on 4 elim debates on a given Monday be more relevant than one's consistent success during the course of an entire debate season?

my question: did camp 3nr think to bring malgor on board in an effort to reach out to a slightly skinnier community?

  17. Anonymous

How to get recruited for debate? Talking to coaches, etc. about debating in college.

  18. bietz

    @roy

you think we have listeners? given what we said about PF in our last podcast, I sorta doubt it. haha.

  19. Randy

Dylan and I were wondering what would be your reaction if lip syncing (i.e. one debater moves their mouth during their speech while their partner said all the words) were to occur in a debate you judged
